Some news from both sides of the Gun Fence First, the bad: once again, the City of Chicago leads the way in violating citizens' rights. House Bill 1966 was amended last week to include a ban on semi-auto pistols, rifles, and shotguns, and .50 caliber rifles in targeted zip codes. The six targeted zip codes all fall within city limits. So, good luck if you get robbed, Chicagoans. Hope the fuzz shows up in time to identify your body, because God forbid you should actually have the ability to shoot back at the clown breaking in through your window. Thank the Good Lord I live in a home-rule community.
Pretty bad. But, we have two pieces of news from the happy side. HB 48, which would have required virtually all private handgun sales to be processed through a licensed firearm dealer, and HB 179, which was seeking to expand to a ridiculous level the mandatory gun storage laws, both were struck down this week. That is great news.
Thanks to all my fellow NRA members, who like me flooded their Representatives' offices with emails, postcards, and calls, to let the politicos know where the people stand. Visit the NRA-ILA website here.
