Hussein made a little jump to Iraq after sucking up to the Turks. Wanted to show some face in Baghdad for some reason.
He spoke for 6 whole minutes to about 700 troops. "Thanks so much, even though I did everything I could to make this operation as difficult as possible for you. Great job, now get the hell out." That kind of thing, I'm sure.
What is missing from this article that speaks volumes about how our Brave Ones feel about Hussein is the lack of fanfare. No huge reception, no cheering throngs like the ones that greeted Bush, no handshakes or picture ops. Just 700 soldiers standing politely. The article does say that Nobama pleased "troops interviewed by reporters". What that says to me is that reporters had to sift through 700 people to find the handful that were actually glad to see the son of a bitch. So let's figure 10 happy soldiers, versus 690 not-so-happy ones. That's a 0.014% approval rating, a 69 to 1 ratio. The dead Hussein would get better numbers than that just on novelty alone.
I also noticed he kept his "hard stare" look that he uses at press conferences in his back pocket. Probably a smart move there; he'd look really silly getting stared down by 690 hard-as-nails GIs.
All this came after he told a bunch of Turkish frat-boys how he was opposed to the war all along.
There is a phrase rolling around in my head right now that always comes to mind when I think of Hussein, and it sounds very much like "trucking sock-mucker".
Story here.
Glad I wasn't in the crowd...would have been the right time for an accidental discharge!
ReplyDeleteBoy, that would have been tragic.(GIANT SARCASM SIGN HERE!)
