It's Official: Nothing is Sacred

This is an interesting little tidbit, especially those of us who have been known to move a few pieces around on occasion:

The United States Chess Federation is currently embroiled in six different lawsuits. Present and former executive board members and the federation itself are slinging charges across the table of "identity theft, obscene internet postings...defamation of character, slander, and election skulduggery".

Wow. Pretty heavy stuff, considering the source. I know from experience chess geeks can get hot under the collar sometimes, but this?

I wonder what the obscene postings are. Does somebody have a fantasy set with naked queens and harem girls for pawns? If so, where can I get one, and how do I get my wife to let me put it on the coffee table?

In defense of my fellow chess geeks, I must say I am impressed with the charges of "election skulduggery". Not "fraud" or "tampering", but "skulduggery". Classic use of imagery, just like a well-played Sicilian Defense.

This all goes to prove that we should have never outlawed dueling. I think most disputes would be better settled over a musket ball. If nothing else, we'd have a lot fewer idiots in the world.
